About Saffron

Saffron is a spice with a powerful aroma and health benefits. It imparts a beautiful saffron orange color when steeped in liquids. It gives a strong aroma to the dishes it's added to. Saffron is a plant origin obtained from the flowers of crocus sativus flowers. Each flower consists of 3 crimson colored stigmas which are also known as the saffron spice.
Saffron is usually referred to as the costliest spice in the world. This is because each crocus sativus flower gives 3-5 stigmas of saffron and 1 gram is approximately 450 such stigmas. Around 150 flower give a gram of saffron. These flowers are hand-picked at a particular time of day. It is then dried and packed. This is a very tedious process.
